Along with their neighbours in the pretty Hertfordshire village of Kimpton, Clifford Harland and his wife Claire could rely on one sure sign that dusk was settling over their neighbourhood. 'The sky would pretty much go black for a moment as the rooks all came flocking back to the forest,' Clifford, a 73-year-old retired agricultural retailer, recalls.
